Lecture #1 Outside Lecture!
For the outside lecture, it was interesting due to how the first time in forever we finally got nice weather on campus. We first were discussing thoughts about how writing paper number 2 was, alongside discussing interpreter of maladies across a fishbowl sitting down on the concrete next to the nice fountain on a cool 70-degree day. It was so interesting and so much fun because the environment made the group talk more as a whole compared to how silent we were in a classroom. Honestly, I was so lost that day in the thoughts of everyone talking about their paper that I didn't get interpreter of maladies that much haha... But the one thing I really gained from this day which makes this my favorite lecture is how nature sparked our minds as people which I personally found beautiful.
Lecture #2 Egalitarianism
This lecture was very serious after reading the piece White Woman of Color by Julia Alverez. Especially how modern day events deal with the issue of human equality it just hit the heart really hard. A concept presented in the lecture was the four major institutions being government, family, religion, and education. These four concepts are seen every day and they would (according to the definition of egalitarianism) be relative. I took many things from this lecture, the most important one being how this word is just "made up" by the American people to show that we live in a "Utopian society" but in reality, we don't.
Lecture #3 The Tragic Hero...
This lesson was about the play that the Greek Philosopher Sophocles wrote known as Antigone and the themes of this play were suppression and freedom. The analysis that was taken from this play was how when there is something morally wrong, what is the will that you have to fix it no matter what the consequence is. What I found interesting to this lecture was how contradicting it was to a modern-day audidiance, this is due to the silence the majority of people have in public when something wrong is going one. But to Antigone, the proper burial for her brother means the world to her. I learned how speaking up, is the key to motivation and good decisions to the mind of people. Also, I loved this lecture because it was Greek myth and, who doesn't love Greek myth!!!
